Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my contribution important?
Like most independent schools, Los Encinos relies on the generous support of families and friends to augment its operating budget every year. Since the 2013-2014 school year, LES has been extremely proud of the fact that 100% of our Parents, Faculty, Staff, and Board of Trustees have donated to our annual LES Fund. This incredible eight year streak of 100% support is a testament to our community’s belief in our school’s mission and the education LES provides its students.
Such broad internal support is looked at favorably when LES applies for outside funding from foundations and corporations.
Why must money be raised every year in addition to tuition?
Tuition only covers a portion of the cost of the LES experience for each student. As is the case in most independent schools, unrestricted gifts to our LES Fund help to fill the gap between what we receive in tuition and the real cost of educating each LES student. Currently, this gap is $3,500 per student.
The LES Fund is our most critical fundraising initiative. It supports many of the school’s most pressing priorities, such as providing a robust tuition assistance program, offering faculty professional development, making campus improvements, supporting our academic and humanities programs, retaining faculty and staff, and much more.
We also believe that a diverse student body enriches the lives of all LES students. Increasing the cost of tuition would put LES out of reach for many families. Additionally, donations to the Annual Fund are fully tax-deductible, and tuition is not. Some consider their Annual Fund gift as the tax-deductible portion of their tuition.
How much am I expected to give?
We hope that LES will become your number one philanthropic priority and that you give a gift that is meaningful to your family. We need a number of leadership gifts to meet our goal and we also appreciate gifts from all giving levels. Every dollar makes a difference.
Since 1980, Los Encinos has delivered the promise of being a keenly focused elementary school while using its wondrous advantages of being small. Please consider a gift to Ambitiously Small, our sustainability fund, which will help us continue our mission into the next forty years and beyond.

Memorial and Honorarium Gifts
Memorial and Honorarium gifts are meaningful ways to honor a loved one or celebrate a special occasion. These gifts may be given to the school at anytime.
Honoring the memory of a loved with a donation in remembrance or by establishing a Memorial Fund to which friends, family and colleagues can be directed allows a loved one’s legacy to continue to make a meaningful impact on the world.
At Los Encinos School, Memorial donations support the long-term goals of the school. All memorial donations will be directed into our sustainability fund, Ambitiously Small, a fund which will help us continue the school’s mission further into the future.
When you establish a Memorial Giving Fund at Los Encinos School, we will assist you in selecting the most meaningful way to honor the life of your loved one, and we will assist your family in acknowledging those who give in your loved one’s memory.
