Admissions FAQS

Who is an LES student?

A Los Encinos student is one who is curious, creative, and capable. Los Encinos students are eager to learn, and participate fully in the life of the school. Los Encinos students engage in an integrated academic program that fosters the arts and sciences. Los Encinos parents support our programs and work in partnership with the school. Our admissions process takes into consideration the personal, as well as academic, qualities of each applicant.

How old does my child have to be to be considered for Kindergarten?

Normally your child must turn five before September 1st of their kindergarten year, however there are exceptions.

My child is not returning to pre-school in 2020-2021. What do we do about the required recommendations?

We understand that some parents are choosing to keep their children home during this time of uncertainty. As part of our admissions process we require both a teacher and an administration recomendation to be sent to us from your current school. If your child is attending pre-school this year these forms can be requested from your current school after December 1st. If your child IS NOT attending pre-school this fall please have your last teacher and adminstrator fill out these forms. If you are considering LES and are going to apply we advise you do this as soon as possible, so we can get the most pertinant information from the educators who last worked with your child.

Does LES have a transitional Kindergarten program?

LES holds an optional Kindergarten “Camp” in August before the regular school year begins. During these two weeks the newest members of our community get to know their new teachers in a camp-like atmosphere as they become famililar with the LES campus. When the regular school year begins, our kindergarteners have an easier time separating from their parents because they are more comfortable, confident, and eager to be with their new friends.

How big are the class sizes at LES?

For the 2020-2021 school year the average class size is 24 students per class. Currently our kindergarten class is staffed with four full-time credentialed teachers. Other primary grades have two credentialed teachers and an assistant. Grades 5 and 6 have one credentialed teacher and an assistant.

Los Encinos School’s tuition assistance program provides students and families an opportunity to attend the school when it would not have otherwise been an option. Since 1980 LES has awarded 7.6 million dollars to its community. Currently, approximately 30% of our student body receives tuition assistance. We use FAST (Financial Aid for Student Tuition) to help us determine eligibility. After Dec 1st, 2020, the application for Tuition Assistance can be found HERE. We try to extend the budget to accommodate everyone’s needs; all interested families are encouraged to apply.

2020-2021 School Year

We currently have limited enrollment opportunities in certain grades for the 2020-2021 school year. We were one of the first four schools in LA County to receive a waiver to return to on-campus learning. Before Thanksgiving we successfully brought our K-2nd graders back to campus for seven weeks. At this time we remain in our At-Home learning model and are scheduled to return to campus in February.

Modifications have been made to our campus in preparation for the long-awaited return of our students which meet, or exceed, the CDC and State of California guidelines for reopening.

If you would like more information about enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year, please click the button below to fill out the inquiry form and one of our Admissions staff will contact you with more information.
