The 2016-17 school year was amazing and I am filled with immense pride and joy in all we have accomplished and enjoyed. At Los Encinos, we take pride in being a close-knit community with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It’s this special “Los Encinos feeling” that draws so many parent volunteers for the full and ambitious calendar of events we hold each year. In 2016-2017, we may have set a record for volunteers, which speaks directly to our parents engagement — it’s truly a labor of love!

From our Welcome Back Breakfast on the first day of school to our Thank You Breakfast toward the end of the school year, there are multiple events and special occasions in which to plan and participate. Committees are formed to run each event. Some events are seasonal (such as Prospective Parent Night, Book Buddies, Halloween Carnival, Thanksgiving Feast & Virginia Reel, Faculty Appreciation,Grandparents & Special Friends Day, and Sports Day) and some opportunities are year-round (Art, Library, Service Learning, Spirit, and Hot Lunch) as well as many, many more ways to get involved.

I love to walk around campus and see our parents in action — working hard and having a great time! They are dedicated to making each and every event better than the last for the kids and for the community. There’s a certain kind of joy a small school such as Los Encinos offers, not least of which is the fact that we, as individuals, can make a huge difference. So jump right in, become involved, and start making memories!

P.S. If I have inspired you and you’d like to join a committee, you may easily do so online by completing this form: http://losencinosschool.org/parentvolunteer.

Book Buddies is a fun, social evening for grown-ups that allows us to meet fellow parents and stock the library with books on the teachers’ wish-lists.

Beautification Day is where we literally get our hands dirty and make a difference on campus!
