Ella Rosenson (’18), now a 7th grader at Buckley, returned to the flagpole today to make an appeal for her “mitzvah project” that’s close to her heart, Stella’s Socks. Founded by 8th grader (now 9th grader), Stella Vaughan Verk, the non-profit organization delivers socks to over 100k homeless and homeless youth in Los Angeles, according to their website. Each month, a ‘Sock Sesh’ is held, allowing other kids and youth from the community an opportunity to participate in service and experience the rush of doing good and giving back.
Ella will be hosting a fun event at her house on October 21st from 3-5pm (see flier below). Donations are not required, but they are encouraged. Their Go Fund Me page is here: gofundme.com/EllasFundraiser4StellasSocks.
And even though the name implies that they need socks, they actually have plenty of sock donations. What they are looking for, Ella said, is money for a coordinator to distribute the socks to several needy groups.
It was great to see Ella back on campus and she credits Los Encinos School for playing a prominent role in establishing her love of service learning.
More power to you, Ella, and mazel tov on your upcoming bat mitzvah!
